This was inspired by another member’s suggestion.

I thought it might be fun if our houseplants (or garden plants!) introduced themselves. Blush

Hi, my name’s Molie the Monstera. I’m quite easy-going, although I do enjoy a bright spot by the window. I’m always reaching for the light and proudly showing off my new leaves. Please don’t overwater me… I like a drink, but not wet feet! Seedling

Feel free to add a photo of one of your plants and let them introduce themselves too. Houseplants, garden plants, wildflowers… everyone is welcome!

  • Tapwater contains chloramines that kill microbes. You can't remove it by letting the water sit for a few days like you can with chlorine. Choramine is an ammonia and chlorine bond. An oxidising disinfectant. When it comes into contact with a microbe, the chlorine damages it's DNA and cell walls.

    You can buy ascorbic acid powder (vitamin C) on eBay. If you add a tiny little pinch to a bucket of water, it will destroy all of the chloramine in seconds. I always add it before i water my plants. You can drink the water too or use it for aquarium water changes. God knows what chloramine is doing to us inside!

    I bought a filter for my outside tap which should last years. I use it for housekplants too.

    Nice! I have an RODI unit which strips the water of everything. Now I've switched to tapwater that has been treated with ascorbic acid. You can buy a plant food from a company called Hydrocrop called Hydrosol.

    It's a balanced 2 part salt. You get two seperate bags and they give the plants everything they need. All the essential macro and micro nutrients. It can be used for hydroponics or for watering potted pIants. I add a pinch of part one to 12 litres of water, wait of it to disslove, then add a pinch of part 2. It will last for years and only costs £20.
