Bad messages

I went to try and find some sandals in our local shoe shop, they had loads, just none in my size, what made it worse was that the shop assistant told me "most" women don't wear a size 8 and certainly not open sandals. She showed me the few pairs they did have which looked like refugees from a Mar-a-Largo pool party, were white and had heels, which I don't want.

I feel so upset, it's brought back all the old messages about being to big to be a proper girl, I've been hearing this message for 50 years, half a centrury of being told I'm to big and then people wonder why women my size end up with eating disorders.

Then I went to the bank to send my daughter in law some money for her birthday only to be told banks don't do cash transfers anymore! WTF?

  • I'm sorry but that's such an offensive thing to say for a shop assistant. I'm a 7, I mostly buy online, and use the 'filter' to make sure I'm not wasting my time looking at shoes they don't have in my size.  I've never been big on heels, I'm ever so slightly taller than my husband, so when I do wear any sort of heel I'm taller than him.

What sort of sandals are you after? I had a pair that are from an outdoor shop, with a sturdy flat sole and straps so they are fully adjustable, and can get wet and dry out fast, I've had them for a decade or so as it's not often I wear them.  Shoe shops rarely having anything for women that aren't ankle-breakers. Supermarkets sometimes are good, as everyone else buys the average sizes, and there are sometimes the bigger ones left. I think I got a pair of rubber sandals on amazon (I needed them to wear at the local pool when the kids were doing lessons).

And yeah, I've found bank services are getting really bad, if you can even find a branch (they keep shutting in my area). They are trying to force everyone onto the apps I'm afraid.

Those sound like they may be the sort of sandals I like to wear now. Places that sell hiking boots and shoes usually do ladies walking sandals in most sizes, although I’ve noticed JD Sports size range is limited.
