Job makes me want to end it all

My job is an Autistic nightmare, bright lights, loud office environment, dragged from one task to the next.

Now the operations team has moved to our office it means all the drivers are in and out throughout the day.

I live a life of burn out 24/7, which doesn't feel like a life worth living anymore.

I have spoken about my autism, I even opened up to a manager about the mental health issues I've been having with it.

As expected it's the hollow support "Do what you need to do". Yet not willing to actually make any changes. Best I get offered is permission to put both headphones in, but site manager doesn't want both in.

I've tried applying for other jobs, but either get nothing back or I struggle in interviews (even when I do my best).

I've reached out for help with family and either they can't or get told to just apply online. Meanwhile everyone else gets help getting their foot in the door.

I've been in tears many times, frustrated that I can't just quit my job, even though I know how liberating it will be. That's when the darkness comes saying the only other option is......

  • Dear Naruto_2025,

Thank you for posting and telling the community what you are going through. We are sorry to hear that you are currently experiencing burn out and mental health difficulties exacerbated by work. It is good that you’ve let us know what’s happening and how you feel. Many people have similar thoughts when coping with so much and we hope you’re okay.

If you are unable to cope with the distress or despair, it’s very important to tell someone about your feelings or thoughts of suicide. Call your GP and make an urgent appointment. Your GP can make sure you get appropriate help and support.

The National Autistic Society does not currently operate a crisis or emergency service. We advise you to contact 999 or any of the mental health crisis lines listed on our Urgent Help Page if you are at risk of immediate harm:https://www.autism.org.uk/what-we-do/help-and-support/urgent-help

If you are not at immediate risk of harm, we would encourage you to speak to your GP or another health professional about this if you haven’t done so already. If it’s outside your GP hours call 111 to reach the NHS 111 service. In England, Wales and Scotland there is now an option to speak with mental health professionals by selecting ‘option 2’ when calling NHS 111: https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/urgent-and-emergency-care-services/when-to-use-111/
