Feeling disempowered, how do you cope?

I feel really disempowered by my inability to find clothes to fit let alone ones that I like, its the same with shoes, why are all non formal shoes trainers? I don't want trainers, I don't like them and have never owned a pair.

I think it's the lack of shops that makes me feel disempowered, we will need new ceiling lights for upstairs due to electrical problems, there's two places where we can actually go and look at a small selection of stuff. What if we can't find anything we like? I hate looking at pictures online theres just an object on a blank background, theres no perspective like there used to be in old fashioned catalogues. When I do look online I have to wade through pages and pages of sponsered ads and stuff I didn't ask for to the point where I just give up.

    I tend not to buy clothes on line or if I do I do click and collect, so I can try them on in store and give them straight back if I don't like them. I have a real problem with shoes too. Though as I have an E fitting I do buy on line and click and collect as need a lot of pairs to try on. I have previously sent back all 6 pairs.

    I tend to go back to brands for home furnishings that I have liked before the days of the internet. Plus I tend to know exactly what I am looking for. I last bought lights a long time ago and when I had money to spend on furnishings. I thought I'd google BHS for a light like I bought years ago and almost fell off my chair when it said it was 60 pounds.

    Golly I didn't know BHS still existed, I used to love them for so many things.

    I have a similar problem with shoes, I always use Hotter and Moshulu now, Moshulu send a returns lable with your order and do everything they can to make the returns process as easy as possible. I got fed up with Clarks, the price is the same but the quality isn't as good, I did have a look online yesterday and found nothing I liked. I don't like going to the shop in Bangor as the assistants are pushy.

    Most places that say they do clothes for tall people actually don't and if they do it's an extra couple of inches on the hem, none of the garments actually fit, the knee in a pair of trousers is above my knee, the bust darts in a top are under my armpits. Although I think this has become a common problem with things made in China, they just don't make them properly. A lot of places that say they do a longer length, actually mean a 31" inside leg on trousers, they're still ankle swingers on me I need a 33" at least. I remember laughing at someone down the phone when I enquired about something and she said they do really long 31" leg trousers, I remember when that was a normal length! Now it seems that leg lengths  start at 27" and usually stop at 29", 4" to short for me!

    With light fittings I don't like pendant central stuff unless it's somewhere like the top of the stairs, I certainly don't want them in the living room, not that I use them anyway, I find them oppressive and I don't really want one looming over me, nearly all the other ones have metal fittings which we're no longer able to have.

    Actually it's a lot nicer than that one, but if I put a photo of mine, that might be against the forum rules for ID data. Grin
