  • Hey hon,

First, take a deep breath. If you know any grounding exercises, practice them now. If not, breathe in for four, hold for four, exhale for four, hold for four, and repeat. This is called box breathing. Name 5 things you see, 4 things you touch, 3 things you hear, 2 things you smell, one thing you taste.

take a breath—we’re with you. This is super nerve wracking, but remember—this is not a pass fail thing. If they give you the desired response, congrats, you can proceed from there. If not, maybe this wasn’t the right doctor, maybe this wasn’t the right avenue—you can’t help that now. All you can do is just be yourself. People will judge, but good medical professionals should never judge, especially in a setting like this. If you feel uncomfortable in that way, this might not be the right team. You’re not going to mess this up because you can’t mess this up: they are looking for your authentic experience and nothing more. If it makes you feel better, these people do hundreds of these tests per month and have seen a whole gamut of human experience. The good ones won’t judge, and if they do, get far, far away—their opinions do not matter.

whatever comes out of this test, your feelings are valid, you are valid, your struggles are valid, and you don’t have to slap a specific label on to describe life kicking you down more than the average person experiences.
we’re with you. Stay strong, and keep your chin up. You’re fine the way you are.

    love,

    Max
