People stressing me out!

I’m feeling really stressed about this upcoming cricket game which I’ve given permission to be played in my field this weekend and now I’m getting so much hate from neighbours and people from the village. It’s an absolute nightmare and I’ve had a migraine on and off because of it.

Basically what it is is they want to use my field for a game of cricket this Sunday and they are meeting a lot of opposition with the majority of our community because it will be a lot of noise on that day and the field is next to the centre of the village.

I’ve given them the okay to do the cricket game. The way I see it is it’s a day out for people, better than people just using their phones and there’s no other purpose for the field other than occasionally renting it out to a local farmer. My mum used to let them use it for cricket every summer as well and I see no reason to stop her tradition now. Only thing is I’ve been getting a lot of people calling me and complaining about it, and one or two have come to the house and talked to me about this game and why can’t it be somewhere else.

I said about my mum’s tradition and I don’t want to stop it as it’s something she used to enjoy and brought enjoyment to a lot of others as well. I said it’s only once a year, which it is. The way a lot of people talk they make it sound like it’s done every weekend but that’s not the case. I’m not into sport and I know nothing about cricket but I see no harm in doing this.

I just wish people would stop keeping on at me. It’s becoming so tedious and they make me feel like I’m the villain for giving this the green light.

Sometimes I wish I lived on my own private island, with only wildlife for neighbours.

  • Wow kudos to you for keeping up with the tradition! That sounds like it could be potentially a huge amount of stress.

You’re not a villain. I have a guy in my neighborhood who has a loud concert he puts on every other weekend in summer and it stresses me out, but I can manage enough to not complain to him about it. If I can handle that, then your neighbors can handle one day of the year lmao.

I say keep digging your heels if you can. It sounds like what you are doing is a positive for the community. Maybe warn the folks running the game of the backlash you’ve been having, though. That way they aren’t surprised if the neighbors complain to them as well.
