Assessment day

Well it's finally arrived, I'm getting my assignment today. I've been the NHS waiting list for almost 3 years without any end in sight.

I requested "the right to choose" from my GP about a month ago, I was given a list of providers and I chose Skylight as they had a practice not too far away.

I got an email from them within a week with links for various questionnaires. An appointment for a video interview came shortly after that and now I have my face to face assessment.

To say I'm quietly freaking out is an understatement!

I know there's no real pass or fail to the questions but it doesn't really help.

If it turns out that I'm really not part of the community, I don't know where to turn next.

  • Just a quick update. Unsurprisingly it was fine, the assessor was great, she let me ramble on and just asked a few questions to nudge me in a certain direction.

No toothbrush and no frog book questions. Apparently I managed to cover all the bases without them.

I just have to wait for the report to finally get my confirmation or not.

    Thanks for the kind wishes

Really nice to hear that you found the process went well. Is it a ok situation to be in and do they make you feel at ease? I am on a 10 month wait through right to choose and it m feeling how you first said you felt. It took me over a year to pluck up the courage to approach my Gp prior to that.

D they ask the relevant questions and is there something that could perhaps do to prepare? I’m very forgetful and struggle with it find the words I need to use which is making me worry already.

Sorry for all the questions and well done for getting through it

  • I was fine, she explained a bit about the process and asked if I knew anything about it, I mentioned the frog book and toothbrush, she said that it was in the standard assessment but she didn't always use it as it could be seen as a little demeaning.

It seemed as though I just waffled on and she asked certain questions about friendships, feelings, school etc, it was supposed to be around 40 minutes to and hour but we overran by about 40 minutes but it didn't feel pressured.

So I don't think preparation would help, just be as open and honest as possible, I didn't feel judged by the end of it, I did have a bit of an emotional moment in the middle when I had to explain a few bits, but that was something I felt was necessary to bring up.

Hopefully your assessment will go as well as mine seemed to go.
