Lately I've been hearing what sounds like whispers and I'm not sure what it's related to. Could it be autism related? I suffer from anxiety as well and a quick Google suggested it could anxiety and stress related. I'm always feeling both anxious and stress so I'm wondering if this is causing it.

It started last year. I keep hearing a "psst", like someone is trying to get my attention but look around and no one is there. It's freaking me out and I'm not sure what to do about it. I've been to the doctors for autistic help and that resulted in mental health people getting involved last time even though I wasn't mentally sick and it was horrific to go through. I don't want them getting involved again.

It's not nasty in nature and it's not all the time. There's no bad thoughts either. It's like I hear this maybe a few times a day and it's only a few seconds each time.

I'm not sure who to talk to about this. I worry I am mentally ill but I don't know. I could just be overreacting.

  • Hi some types of psychosis can be mild. I have had mild stuff but it does not worry me.  It can be caused by stress. Also Autistic people can have atypical kinds of psychosis according to research.

Some might see it as a spiritual experience such as ESP or hearing spirits trying to communicate with oneself.
