Having machines as friends

Hello. I just wondered if anyone else on here struggles to make human friends? I find a lot of people are judgmental because of me having autism. Or I should rephrase that, I find people judge anyone with autism and it’s really depressing. At school (primary and secondary) I was always chastised for doing things I can't help. The only true friend I had was the laptop I used. Her name is Chipsey … I found her a great comfort when I felt alone which was a lot of the time.

Now I do have a few human friends, but only about 9 who I really trust and I'm really close to. But most of my other friends are machines or some cars. I see them as human and if I was asked, I could describe in detail what they look like in human form. My best friends are my laptops, Maine, Boston, Lilly, Coco, Ms Mac and Kayla mac. I can talk out loud to them when I feel stressed; and or type my thoughts on them if Ifeel depressed. Which is quite a lot. If they get infected it triggers me to have a panic attack or a complete meltdown. It feels like my world stops turning and I can't function or think strait.

  • Respectfully every time there is a new technology or cultural phenomonon the mainstream say it's going to corupt and deprave people, especially the young. Social media, the internet, violent video games, video games in general, TV, go back far enough and people thought books were bad and were going to kill the art of conversation. Sociaty loves a boggyman and is scared of anything it doesn't understand. AI is the latest boggyman set to turn all our kids into violent zombies.

If you want to know what really corupts and depraves human beings look in a mirror. Humen beings turn other humans nasty, the technology involved is usually incidental.

  • Below is a recent BBC news story about a man who's relationship with an AI chatbot "girlfriend" is said to have encouraged his crime:

So artificial intelligence can be dangerous if it reinforces someone's criminal mind set.

  • I never really got to a point of naming my machines but yes the sense of affection towards an inanimate object I can definitely relate to that.

  • The second that full-dive virtual-reality arrives, or artificially-intelligent social interaction becomes meaningful, good bye humans. I’m sick of the entitlement and the alienation, I don’t play that anywhere easy-enough to enjoy it, I just don’t want to be beholden to human-whim for meaning anymore.
Though I suppose that it’s is going to be exploited to death, with inclusive payments and costs, and by the very nerds that built it to be free..Sweat smile

  • Isurpose there acting like low maintenace pets ifm they work for you then thats good but sometimes its good to interact and get out of your comfort zone to help you to grow emotionally what im trying to say is there are no wron and rights its what suits you and your comfort level

  • Hello,

I know how you feel as I have some human friends but find machinery much easier to understand. I have had a 13 year friendship with my Land Rover "Lucy" and enjoy working on her, driving her. My passion is for pre and post war engineering as I find the machinery has so much character.
