Item 12 definitely NOT true, I manifested Autistic traits long before I took my first vaccine. My mum apparently was an antivaxxer. I'm not, but I am NIMATY* when it comes to MRNA shots, which I cannot consider to be a vaccine despite them changing the offiicial definition of a vaccine some years ago..

I've imported a couple of these now, because I've found in the couple of very busy years since my own diagnosis that my own nature is fundamentally affected by changing aspects of my diet.

It's a work in progress, which I only really got into the last few months, But it would seem I was able to reduce the severity and duration of my last "low functioning" period a few months back massively by immediately eating the right stuff. I only get the big attacks maybe once a year, so it'll be a while before I am sure, but the general quality of my psychological balance also seems to have improved. 

Let me pick out a few quotes from the comments section to illustrate my point:

I got bored after the first few pages of comments.

It is also interesting to note that anyone posting supporting Vaccines (without evidence or with a sketchy link) = bad get voted up yet anyone saying contrary to this and quoting peer reviewed articles gets voted down.

It proves that people there prodominantly are not interested in facts but just want an echo chamber for their ideas.

But Iain, THERE SIMPLY IS NOT a " paranoid conspiracy where vaccines are the cause of every evil in the world".

That is you thinking and speaking in the woolly way you claim to despise, and trying to make the audience pick between tinfoil hat and a hoodwink.

They see conspiracy everywhere and their rhetoric is damaging any credibility that the issue may have.

I'm with Caelus on this - we are just much better at diagnosing children now plus have a huge pool of adults being diagnosed and swelling the numbers, but that doesn't fit the paranoid conspiracy where vaccines are the cause of every evil in the world.

I am extremely sceptical. Maybe it’s just the way the article is written it doesn’t appear to be a science publication. The general theme is that ‘autism is genetic’ is a bad theory because it disempowers people. And because if autism is genetic it can’t be cured.

if autism is becoming more prevalent there is an entirely consistent explanation within genetics, and that would be that natural selection is selecting for autism. that is a very uncomfortable thing for people who classify it as a disorder instead of an adaptation.

this is why making a distinction between the social model and the medical model of disability is such a huge issue. I think you can make the argument within the context of the medical model of disability that  autism, at least autism of high functioning people, is not a disability. But within the social model of disability autism is absolutely a disability autistic people find society disabling because it is not set up for them.

The theory has been posited that genes that are selected because of their ability to improve peoples cognitive abilities their ability to focus on details to keep a lot of things in their head at one time, to absorb lots of asocial information quickly, that these genes also in combination often lead to autism. And that the occasional social dysfunction due to autism that this causes is out weighed by the positive effects on cognition in a information rich society.

i’m not saying this theory is necessarily true I’m just saying it’s a viable alternative for why autism can be both increasing and genetic.

The USSA sought the Nuclear Family to create their 'Perfect Union', while the people had so much unresolved issues. The reason America is so chaotic is because the people who came there came to escape persecution. That victim mindset was ingrained in them. They still view Britain from the lens of Middle Ages Tyranny.

yeah thats new, they used to call them a disease or disability instead. learning disability is the most confusing one.... everything got called a learning disability, but no disability really effects learning, and often the trouble with learning isnt the learner but the teacher so any trouble learning is more a teaching disability on the teachers part.

And labelling them as disorders...

its not growing in number, its just that we have a name for it, identify it easier, and can diagnose it now.

in the 90s it wasnt diagnosed or sought out to spot, no one cared about it or diagnosing it, it was a case of put up and shut up.

in ancient times we very well can see most philosophers were clearly suffering from some personality disorder or another, but yet the terms for them wasnt made yet. autism and other disorders have always been very common, just naming and diagnosing them is a new thing
