Does anyone else feel sad when they’re alone

Hi

Why am I sad at night? It’s not that I’m sad for a particular reason or that I’m upset to be alone because I don’t mind being by myself in the daytime. But then when nighttime hits, I get extremely sad, sometimes crying-sad. And this only happens when I’m alone.

I could just be distracting myself when I spend the night with someone and that’s why I’m not sad. I just want to fall asleep immediately so I can avoid these feelings and wake up happy again.

Do any of you guys also experience this? What can I do to help this?

  • I am inclined to agree with Peter, as what you have described has all the hallmarks of loneliness. I guess that because options might be limited at night in terms of the activities one can do to pass the time, it can make one more aware of feelings of loneliness.

There are times when I quite enjoy my own company and don't feel in the least bit lonely, irrespective of the time of day. However, if I do go through spells of feeling lonely, I generally tend to find it will be worse at night.

Sadly, I don't think there's an easy answer. Like a lot of things, what might work for one person to ease feelings of loneliness might not work for another.
