Introduction

Hello all,

Very recently diagnosed ASD, and last year with ADHD. Was signposted to the society for the community support aspect, though granted I don't see any local F2F groups listed and I'm not great at making F2F regardless, so online community here I am.

Male, 30.

My life at the moment is teacher training for secondary maths, trying to fit my own study in around that, any other interests and then friends and family. Think I've been a bit burned out recently as nearing the end of first school placement now. Been finding myself playing a fair bit of league of legends, steel division 2 and world of tanks recently when I get the chance recently; or just finding documentaries on YouTube to watch in bed.

That's my life summed up most recently. Am putting together a more general and comprehenseive self-description on my profile.

Last thing I can think of to say is that the profile name is because I'm rather fond of the number 29 (was born on the 29th of my birth month), it is both an odd and prime number, and I think the  profile name has a pleasant rhyme to it written as it is.

Hope you're all well, and best wishes

  • Hi

I find myself drawn to Fibonacci and golden ratio.

Also powers of 2.  Hehe, after looking this up to respond to you I learned this perhaps explains why i am accidentally impolite so often!

    best wishes :-)

  • Ohhh IDing snails sounds fun, what a great lockdown hobby! How many species did you manage to find in your patch?

I don't see that many cinnabars where I can currently, as they are mainly coastal in scotland, though we do get the 6 Spotted Burnets. Moths have such poetic names. I think IDing things in nature is generally exciting, I tend to focus in on areas for a while, like last year I had a gull ID page tab open on my phone for months (actually it is still on there), so I keep looking back at it.

Maths was a favourite subject in school, I remember one teacher had pi round the top of her class room. I like the patterns in pi, I did memorise it to 150 dp, but I stopped there as anything that is infinite, you have to set some boundaries!

Sorry quite a bit of waffle, but hope you enjoy the forum!

  • Hi Cinnabar_wing, thank you for welcoming me!

Right back at you re. the name, are butterfly species your favourite to observe and ID? I had a phase of IDing snail species in my garden back during the lockdowns.

Yes am meaning to check out the forums more fully!

    Best wishes

  • Hi Lotus, thank you for welcoming me!

That's a nice one, something warm/friendly about even numbers, and it's got a lot of different properties too!

How are you finding retirement? I see you and Profdanger above have both worked/currently work in roles supporting people with SEND; have also been curious about specialisng in this regard. Granted only a sample size of 3 here, but perhaps its not an unusual calling for us.

Yes it certainly can be, trying to hold onto those pleasant moments tightly! Did some cover-supply TA work for a primary during the summer last year, still find myself thinking back to that experience in comparison to secondary now.

Oh yes I like reading too and enjoyed Assassin's Creed a lot, would probably say number 2 the most. What're your readig preferences?

  • Hi Profdanger!

Oh yeah I see you're working as an employment specialist for people with disabilities now. How are you finding it in comparison?

I'm finding the academic aspect okay, but the social side inc. behaviour management is my weakest area and the bit I find most exhausting at the moment, alongside the forms to be filled. Next week's a holiday week though so can stay indoors then.

That's nice have played a bit of Fortnite before, and similarly some Warzone. Play league with a friend sometimes though still quite a lot by myself, and the other two I play solo. Any upcoming games you're looking forward to being released?

    Best wishes

  • Good morning from America, OddPrime29!

I’m a male 34. I taught music for 10 years before needing to change to a new profession, so I can understand how easy it is to get burned out in the education field. Take care of yourself, not just the kids you’re teaching.

I’ve been playing a lot of Fortnite with my friends recently, Smash Bros / Mario Kart 8 with my kids, and I’ve been dabbling with a little Bloodborne and Street Fighter 6 on my own. Do you play League, Steel Division, and World of Tanks by yourself or with friends you know?

  • Hi and welcome to the community. My favourite number is 42 (the meaning of life in A hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, and my AQ50 score)

I'm female in my sixties and retired, but during my working life my roles included Accounting, Special Needs Teaching Assistant (primary) and teaching English as a second language. I can understand your burn out - I would imagine that secondary maths teaching is quite challenging!

I enjoy reading and playing video games, although my preference is RPGs such as Assassins Creed, and I'm also a long term Sims 4 player.

Hope you enjoy chatting with us.

  • Hi OddPrime29, I like the name, welcome to the community!

Plenty of gamers and chats on what people are watching to join in with or start your own!
