Hello :)

Hi, I’m Lizzie. I’m 26 and was diagnosed with autism when I was 24. It was something I had thought about for a long time, and it was a relief to find out I was right and it was good to finally get the support I needed.

I have recently finished my art history and visual cultures degree, and I’m proud of myself but it caused me to go through my first experience of autistic burnout and I honestly haven’t felt okay since March time. I’m hopeful I’ll find some support and help from this community, and I’m trying to embrace my autism rather than force myself to be neurotypical and end up in the pits of depression :’)

Some little facts about me: I love to make collages, my special interests are Animal Crossing, the Professor Layton games, lip balms and currently also the Legend of Zelda (playing Skyward Sword for the first time and loving it!). My dog is my favourite person, my favourite film is Us, and I have a Green Day tattoo :3

  • Hello Lizzie!

This might show my age a bit, but my favorite Zelda is Ocarina of Time and if you haven’t tried it yet I highly recommend it. It has really solid gameplay. I haven’t gotten to Skyward Sword yet, but I’ve heard from a close friend who’s done most of the LOZ games that it might be one of the best.

That’s awful that you’ve been battling burnout for so long, so I hope it alleviates soon. I have severe depression, so I don’t know if I’ve ever actually had burnout or just really bad depressive episodes. I just started reading a book right now (“The Autistic Burnout Workbook” by Dr. Megan Neff) to try to understand it better. Maybe that would be a good book for you to read, as well?

    Best wishes
