Hello :)

Hi, I’m Lizzie. I’m 26 and was diagnosed with autism when I was 24. It was something I had thought about for a long time, and it was a relief to find out I was right and it was good to finally get the support I needed.

I have recently finished my art history and visual cultures degree, and I’m proud of myself but it caused me to go through my first experience of autistic burnout and I honestly haven’t felt okay since March time. I’m hopeful I’ll find some support and help from this community, and I’m trying to embrace my autism rather than force myself to be neurotypical and end up in the pits of depression :’)

Some little facts about me: I love to make collages, my special interests are Animal Crossing, the Professor Layton games, lip balms and currently also the Legend of Zelda (playing Skyward Sword for the first time and loving it!). My dog is my favourite person, my favourite film is Us, and I have a Green Day tattoo :3

  • Burnout is scary! I’ve never felt like this before and it’s a tad overwhelming.

The loss of function, anxiety, finding things harder, not being able to speak if pushed, stubbornness, dysregulated thoughts etc. are hard. If you have a meltdown or episode of complete overwhelm too it just makes you feel broken.

At least you know what it is, I didn't for years.

The solution, as I guess you know, is reduced pressure and alone time, which takes months and is hard if you are trying to find a job. Once regulate you can push again, but maybe not quite as hard.

I think the main thing is to try to not compare yourself to others. Be happy being you and follow your own path.

  • Yeah, it's worth making sure you are recovered from burnout, starting a new job too soon for me has been really hard, as exhaustion hit again immediately and wasn't good. It's great you have supportive parents, it really helps with recovery.

Yeah, I missed the big Zelda games on the switch, I don't have a lot of free time (my daughter was born the day BofW was released) and knowing how big they are have put me off getting into them. That's why I like the smaller games as it's more what time I have. But I just bought my son the switch 2 upgrade pack for TotK, and it looks really pretty!

Yeah PW games are a lot of fun, I like the fact they have two different sections to each case, the evidence gathering and the court section. Makes for a good tempo when playing!

  • Welcome to the community! I hope you find here support and like minded people!

  • Hehe thank you! I really really want to play Twilight Princess, mainly for wolf link! I swear there’s an HD version of it for the wii u, maybe I’ll have to treat myself and dust my old console off

  • Burnout is scary! I’ve never felt like this before and it’s a tad overwhelming. I’m lucky to be living with my parents still and they’re being incredible in supporting me, but it’s made the post-uni job hunt very difficult and I’ve postponed it a lot to just try and get better. I’m glad you’re starting to recover!

I actually didn’t enjoy echoes of wisdom as much as I thought I would, I think I found the controls a little tough? I think also coming off of 100%-ing tears of the kingdom just before playing EOW meant I had a bit of Zelda fatigue Sob. I’m really looking forward to trying to 100% SS after I’ve finished the story.

funny you mention phoenix wright, I just got the original trilogy on switch as it was on sale. Really enjoying it, it’s far more compelling than I thought it would be. I love any sort of deduction/puzzle/crime games and it blends all that together so nicely

  • Welcome, Lizzie! I hope you enjoy it here and can find some support. Just wanted to say you have great taste in games, I love legend of zelda too, particularly Skyward Sword (though my own favourite is Twilight Princess because you can turn into a wolf) I'm doing a playthrough of skyward sword at the moment too, on the Wii. Also totally get that about your dog being your favourite person, my two dogs are my favourite people too XD

  • Welcome  !

Burnout isn't great, I think I I'm just starting to recover from mine from quitting my last job in June (though I have been working again since September).

Animal crossing is fun, I just had to buy NH again for my son so he could play same time as my daughter (to avoid fights over game cartridges). I love Zelda franchise, Skyward Sword being one of the bigger ones I actually completed back on the wii! (Recently finished echoes of wisdom but I class that as one of the smaller ones, though I 100%ed it).

I was going to get Layton out for my son, as I think he's ready for them now. Have you tried Phoenix Wright? I remember playing a lot of them same time too.
