Hello

Hello everyone. My name is April and I'm autistic. I was diagnosed when I was 10 which wasn't that long ago but somehow it feels like it's been 50 years lol. I'm 21 now and my life feels so crazy it's hard to function at times! I'm working on self care as my anxiety can be overwhelming and I mask so much I'm trying not to do that either. I work just about lol but in my free time I enjoy being creative and watching fun films.

I'm autistic, a little eccentric and quirky; and hopefully always nice.

:)

  • Hello, when your younger time seems much longer. When 10 a week seems forever. When 15 a month seems a long time. When 25 a year seems a long time.

After 50 a year is the minimum unit of time. Anything less seems a bit too urgent. You mean to fix the fence and 2 years go by, you mean to read a book and never get around to it, you think a film came out 5 years ago but it was 15, etc.

For you, your diagnosis was over half your life ago, so it will seem a long time, plus 11 years is not nothing.

Depending on how your mind works, time can be distorted. I remember some scenes in good detail, plus the emotions I felt, they were 30 years ago but feel only 1. I have also lost big chunks on mush due to being too stressed.

You can do something exciting and 2 days later if feels like a month ago. Like after a holiday, within days it feels like forever ago.

    Perception of time is strange.

  • Time is a strange thing. It’s weird how some things feel like they take sooooo long and other things seem to fly by and I’m like how did that go so fast? As a child the days seemed never ending and I didn’t notice time but as an adult now I’m noticing how fast the time seems to go by, except for when I’m at work. I watch the clock a lot and its like it’s going in slow motion.

I remember when I was a child probably about 7 or 8 and we went on holiday to the country side and that summer was just so carefree and fun and felt as if it went on forever. In a good way! And I remember it lasted weeks, the whole summer it just felt amazing from the start to the end. But my parents said it was just a week we were away and the rest of the summer we were cooped up inside the house because it rained pretty much the whole time.

I feel you here. Stress can have such a big effect on your memory. I've also got ADHD and this affects my memory as well and added with the anxiety it's a bad combo to have.

With some memories I have I can also smell things that were there at the time as well. This can be overpowering but also really nice at the same time.

Sorry I've said a lot here. I just find it interesting!

    Have a nice day.
