Hello from a late-diagnosis middle-ager

Hello all. I am 57, female, and was diagnosed autistic this July after four years, two re-referrals and two assessments.

I look forward to being on this site. When I was a teenager and didn't know what was wrong, I thought, "There must be more like me scattered around the world. One on each continent maybe." Ha...

  • Fellow late-diagnosis middle-ager reporting in.  I'm 57 too, though I was 54 when I finally got my diagnosis.  It was a validating moment for me: proof that I hadn't been "doing it for the attention" all those years and that I really had been struggling.  It was a life-changing moment that lifted a huge weight off my shoulders - a weight everyone else insisted I deserved to carry for being so weird/stupid/disruptive etc.
