Are we allowed to make friends here?

I am quite happy to respect the rules/guidelines as to not sharing personal information and such, but I am desperately lonely and recently diagnosed and online communities and people would be of great help towards soothing a bit of the pain. Perhaps this isn't the place for it and as mentioned before I'll respect that, but if it is then how does one go about it? Or perhaps someone can point me towards another forum or community specifically designed for making friends?

Thanks and I hope you are all hanging in there

  • Did you try Apps for making friends? I do not use them, but know people that have used them effectively. An example is the app Befriend.

Maybe adding just enough info for others to understand: what your interests or hobbies are, and ways of communicating if needed.

Another way is to join a group that shares your interest (like a club). Say, on facebook or meetup (https://www.meetup.com/)  if you use it. Some meeting or events may be at a physical place, some online.

I myself use programming forums, and this forum. I've no friends otherwise, and find it is okay for me. In my case this is likely due to being introverted, shy, and my communication style information-oriented rather than other forms of exchange. So friendships have been more of a pain for me so far.

  • I personally try to keep what im saying unidentifiable it’s not that I don’t want to make friends it’s that I use this platform as a way to seek advice and help and I don’t want that to backfire if that makes sense?

  • Hi and welcome to the community. We are allowed to send each other personal messages although some of us, including me, prefer not to. There is a section on this website which includes instructions how to go about it:

     https://community.autism.org.uk/p/communityfaqs

If you open that link and scroll down, you'll see a section headed "Private messages and friends"

I hope you enjoy chatting with us.
