I'm 21 and this is quite new for me

Hello everyone! I'm Damon.

I was diagnosed with Inattentive type ADHD in early 2025, started taking medication for it, and through that discovered I was also Autistic (which, now, after reading the lived experience of a lot of other AuDHDers, it makes a lot of sense). It's been a pretty interesting and difficult journey so far, and it is nowhere near over yet. I also live with Dyspraxia and Cerebral Palsy

I am currently pursuing my Undergraduate degree in Psychology and, alongside that, working towards my qualification in counselling. I love to write creatively in various formats. I am passionate about film and TV, and I aspire to work as a writer-director one day. I'm a huge Rock fan, spanning many different sub-genres; however, my favourites have to be Post-punk/Goth.

  • Hi and welcome to the community.

I enjoy reading novels, particularly sci-fi time travel, dystopian & thrillers, and playing video games - like you I play in single player mode.

I'm an older woman and so I was a young adult in the post punk & new wave years - my favourites from that era are New Order, Psychedelic Furs, The Clash, Duran Duran, Talking Heads, The Police, Eurythmics, Pet Shop Boys and Duran Duran. Plus I enjoyed almost everything by David Bowie.

I see that you are passionate about film & TV. A few months ago I tried starting a film club on this forum, which then lapsed - partly due to lack of interest and partly because I was busy with moving home. I started it again last weekend - if you're interested, please look out for my film club threads. I choose a film each week that's available on a free to view online catchup service and others can watch it any time during the week and post what they thought. Last weekend's film was I Robot - you can still watch it and post a review if you want - here is a link:

  • I love all of those bands that you mentioned. I almost have to hold myself back from sitting here and ranking all of their best songs, especially New Order and The Clash. (As you can probably see from my profile picture, I'm a massive Joy Division fan and, by extension, New Order). Also, I love the idea of doing film reviews, especially on artistic films or movies that show a lot of parallels to our current world (or where it is headed). So I'll absolutely post some as I come across the threads.

I also love reading dystopian novels, as well as more militaristic ones like Tom Clancy novels.

Did you ever read Altered Carbon?
