Hello.

Hello! I'm ErisBee and I'm autistic and obsessed by everything bee. I only recently found out I'm autistic, though looking back it's kind of obvious that it was always there. I recently turned 28 and have found in recent years my autism is affecting me more than it did say 10-15 years ago. I'm still processing this news but have found it helpful reading others' experiences online. Just being armed with the knowledge that I'm autistic has been a big help to me and settled a lot of the confusion I was experiencing.

Nice to meet you and see you around.

  • Hello and welcome.

Thought I'd relay a random bee story:

My mum had bumblebees nesting in her garage last year. She left them alone and they left her alone too. No problem, except she had to open the garage door each morning to let them out. If she closed it too early in the afternoon the bees would queue up outside the door until she opened again it to let them in. They were some sort of bumblebee with a red tail. She's hoping they don't nest there again as it was a nuisance having to leave the door open all day for the bees!

  • Hi ErisBee.

Welcome! You are in the right place.

Don't worry if you get posts put on moderation. This is "normal" to the forum and puts people off. There is an over zealous spam filter that everyone has got flagged by at one time or another. I'm just telling you in advance because I think people get scared away because this hasn't been explained to them.

  • Hi there,

I like bees as well and different types. I'm doing Heart️ bees colouring book and colouring heaven.

Welcome to the forum. Unfortunately, my diagnosis was largely ignored. I'm trying to rebuild my life (people keep on interfering); at the end of the day, it's up to me what I want to do.

I think I'd made the mistake of leaving a toxic environment. Basically not sure what route to take and maybe too late. In touch with a colleague who understands why I'd left. Could mention it and see what they say. I needed to rant.

  • Hi ErisBee. I'm Andrew. I'm also autistic, I got diagnosed when I was 4. I turn 22 next month. Bees are very interesting to watch, especially flying round flowers and collecting pollen. I love listening to music; my favourite singer is Sabrina Carpenter, who I'm going to see in concert in March. I love all of her albums. Are you into music of any sorts? Lately, I've been watching lots of Family Guy, I've just started season 13, it's so funny! Do you like TV shows? Would love to hear back from you. Bye for now.

  • Hi and welcome to the community!

It's brought me some peace but has left me feeling confused as to where to go from here.

The NAS has a great set of articles focused on "after diagnosis", including one covering how you might feel during the subsequent days / weeks / months. You might find them of interest and/or helpful:

NAS - How you might feel after a diagnosis

NAS - Other advice covering post-diagnosis including:

    • Talking about and disclosing your autism diagnosis
    • Emotional support for family members after a diagnosis
    • Formal support following an autism diagnosis
    • What can I do if formal support is not offered or is not enough

Therapy is often recommended after a diagnosis as a follow up action for your GP to arrange. You might find it helpful to borrow or buy this book, which includes discussion of various types of therapy and counselling, together with advice on choosing the right therapist or counsellor - all from an autistic person's viewpoint. Several of us here have found it very helpful, myself included:

The Autistic Survival Guide to Therapy

  • Hi ErisBee, It’s good to have you here. Welcome.
