Favourite U.K. holiday places

Hello everyone,

we are thinking of having a shortish budget holiday in the U.K. and would be interested to hear any recommendations you might have.

What are your favourite places for a holiday or weekend break in the U.K.?
preferably nowhere too busy or hectic - we like fairly quiet places - not big crowds. Definitely not a big city.

Any ideas?

Thanks Blush

  • Hello. This sounds like a really nice idea for you and your family, a nice quiet break and gentle change of scenery.

I used to holiday every year with my family but my mental health has been bad and I've not felt up to it the last few years.

Previously when my car was running we all went down near Minehead to a caravan site called Burrowhayse based in a rural area. It's quiet, lovely scenery and there's beautiful woodland walks all around. It's based on an old farm and for years me and my family went there on holiday.

I highly recommend it to anyone who likes a peaceful holiday with fewer people than you would get in a mainstream holiday location.

Here's they site in case you're interested.

We always stayed in a static caravan but you can take your own caravan or tent if you want to.

The first year I took my Capri and I towed a caravan because it's something I've always wanted to do and on the motorway I ended up in hours of traffic because a cow fell off a lorry and was walking about. No one hurt luckily and the cow wasn't either, just massive queues of traffic.

    I often think of this.

Wherever you choose to go I hope you have a nice time.

  • Hi Zane - that sounds really nice - I’ve never been there and I’ll take a look - thank you. I don’t think I’d ever dare tow a caravan, and my little car couldn’t manage it either I’m sure! We do use a tent sometimes though - although it’s been a while, I’m sorry your mental health has interfered with you going on holiday - that’s a shame and I can relate as at times it’s been too much for me to go away from home too. Sometimes we’ve had a kind of ‘holiday at home’ - if that makes sense?! - and it’s been really nice: lots of lovely food, spending time in the sunshine in the garden, a barbecue/fire etc. Sometimes that can be as nice as going away.
Queues of traffic are certainly no fun at all!
Thanks for your kind words and suggestion - much appreciated.
