Just diagnosed after 14 years of Struggle

Good morning Smile Im new on here, my 17 year old daughter was diagnosed yesterday as having Aspergers, we both struggled for 14 years of trying to get help, finally we found the right person at cahms to help her!  but now theyve diagnosed her she has been discharged.

Where do we go now? Undecided shes at home as cant go to college and has no friends.

  • I believe the law is that (or will be with the new bill) that children on the spectrum have to be supported by CAMHS etc. until they are 25.  Check up on it.

    This is a typical scenario, CAMHS often don't give a damn about autistic children and wash their hands of the situation, seeing it as a lost cause.

    I would call up the person she saw and request ongoing support.  They can't refuse, even if you have to get re-referred by your GP.  Once she is 18, adult services can (and in law should) provide her with an autism care pathway.

    If she needs DLA you can apply for that.  See if there are any Aspie meetups in your area she could go to for friends.
