Hi there my name is Sylvia, 58yrs old and an Auxiliary nurse and Registered Childminder - you sound very interesting and seems you have done so much with your life - you should be proud - I was diagnosed privately last December with Aspergers - cheers
I worked with people with learning difficulties and then in mental health. I was also the resident artist in a private school for young people with Autism and behavioural problems. I don't work now as I've got fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, anxiety state and asthma. I also had a quintuple heart bypass in 2010.
I'm doing great though and just have to take things a bit slower than before.
That's great that you enjoy your job, It's a good thing to do.
Take care Rob.
Charles.
You're right about that Darren. At first I didn't really feel much at all. I was just relieved to have the diagnosis so that I could have answers for all those things that made me feel so different but it's been a couple of weeks now and I'm just starting to realize what it means. I think it's other people's reactions when I tell them I have Asperger's that freaks me out a bit. They don't all react as you'd hope.
We're approx one hour away from Polperro. I've not been there actually but know that it's a nice place. I have two daughters but both are grown up ( 24 and 27 yrs old ).
Thanks for your post Darren,
Take care. Charles
Hi Charles
I'm new here too - had a diagnosis of Aspergers last year at 43 and it moves you right out of your comfort zone doesn't it... bit like a grieving process really where you feel like you're in a bottomless black hole waiting for a ledge to land on (meaning you get a grip eventually)... How much anger and bitterness to the world do you harbour... I do..
We stayed in Polperro Cornwall back in September and going back in April (renting a chalet) - lovely there - do you have a family (as in Children..?) would like to meet and talk with sufferers who do...
Chin up fella - it get's better the more you realise you're not on you're own..
Darren
hey charles
i work as a special needs assistant, i help teenagers with AS cope with mainstream 2nd level school.
i did a social care degree and chose to submit my thesis based on my work with adults and children with asd's. upon graduating i worked in special schools for a while and then mainstream.
i do feel lucky to be doing something i get a buzz from and i can say honestly that i love going to work.
i hope you make a shed load of friends on this site.

Hello Intenseworld, thank you for saying hello. I hope you're well and happy.
Kind regards.
Hi Rob,
Thanks for your reply. It's good to discover I'm not the only one gong through this. It was similar for me in that it was really just a confirmation of the obvious.
What is your work in the school? I've also worked in schools and find it easier to get on with children. I'm really pleased that you enjoy your job. Many people don't have that so you're very lucky in that way.
I don't have friends in the real world either, so yes, I'm hoping to make some on here.
Hopefully, you are the first.
Take care
bye for now.
hello
i am 55 and diagnosed in june. although the dianosis was really just confirming the obvious it is still a tough one to get my head around. how are you coping?
love cornwal, spent time there as a kid, i'm in dublin now. i moved to ireland about 25 years ago and find it easy to get by here.
i work in a school, love my job and i'm told i'm good at it, happy days.
i hope you make a shed load of friends on here, i'm hoping for the same for me ( loads of cyber buddies). i don't have friends in the real world, my family seems to be all the social contact i need.
wishing all the best
