Hey :)
My son who is 11 was diagnosed with ASD about 3 weeks ago, we have been waiting for this for 9 years its been such a long journey.
the struggle i am facing is telling my son about his diagnosis, he have heard medical professional, family interventions teams, teachers, doctors pointed toward ADHD and my son have fixed on that now after my self and his father explained it may not be that etc and we need to wait whilst the ND team done their thing. Anyways for him to get support ready and the ball rolling for when he goes to year 7 comprehensive school we need to tell him about his diagnosis.
my question is, how did you tell your children or family member who had their diagnosis?
thanks in advance. x
I hate to ask this as it is a bit besides the point, but, who on earth did you have to go through for it to take 9 years to get a diagnosis?
it is okay i don't mind, everyone possible tbh, from age 2 to 3 they said he is just being a toddler, from 3 to 5 every time he was referred to space nd they said he didnt meet the critera. we got denied for years and years, no matter how many appointment, doctors, health visitors, intervention teams, school etc they kept saying no then 2 years ago we finally got on the wait list and got there in the end. i have been clueless in this and have spent the last few weeks learning everything i can for if he has questions, i want to be able to answer them you know :)
