Work difficulties

Hi

So I was wondering if anyone has struggled with maintaining a job with not just Autism, but also Dysgraphia? It's quite the combination, but was dismissed from my previous job partly based on my Dysgraphic tendencies like learning how things operate more slowly compared to others etc. Is it just I need more time? Or any there any other tips?

  • Hi George,

If they didn't know about the dysgraphia then that's fair enough, but they knew about your ASD and should have considered that.

I hope your next job goes a little better.

  • We take more time learning about something because we will learn everything there is to know about it. School tried to cure my handwriting, I will write words in mixed upper and lower case, often letters missing as well. The way I get around it is to not write, typing is fine, spellcheck and autocorrect do the rest. The most I will hand write is a birthday card, that takes a massive amount of energy and time. Internet cards take care of that task.

  • Hi

I'm not sure, but I did make some mistakes which could of contributed to them being unhappy. They knew about the Autism, but not the dysgraphia, although I did say I learnt slowly due to it.

  • Wow - that must be a very tricky combination of challenges for you George.

I am sorry but I have no experience of Dysgraphia so can't really contribute anything here.

  • George, I think it's outrageous that you were dismissed for that.

Are they even allowed to do it?

  • I struggled with my writing, growing up. However, I can write legibly; when the need arises.

Most of my jobs, however, were typing roles; administrative. I have a distinction in typing, and a pass in word processing. But, still, getting jobs were impossible. I always go to pieces in interviews.
