medical v psychological

Hi

I am a newbie.

My 7 year old is waiting for his nuerodevelopmental assessment. I am pretty certain he has ASD. He also has a gastric problem which is baffling the medical professionals. This is involves him having episodes of chronic spasms in his rectum. This started about the same he started school nursery. He has seen several specialist consultants who do not seem to be able to find anthing pysically wrong. Therefore they say it could be psychological. He has been prescribed several different meds over the year none of which have much impact. These episodes last for about 3 hours and only subside when my son is exhausted and falls asleep.

Its interesting that my son did not have any episodes over the school holidays but as soon as he has returned to school he had an episode.

I am desperate to understand what is going on for my son. Can anyone relate to this experience and if so can u suggest any strategies/therapies to help.

Thanks SB

    Your insight is so helpful.

I am determined now to get the help and support he needs. He loves school but it has been a battle for him from the off. Your so right about environmental factors bring out the symtoms. Ineed to find a way of helping my son understand autism. Any suggestions age appropriate books?

Thanks, i don't feel so alone Smile
