Hi both,Our page on Toileting may offer up some ideas: https://www.autism.org.uk/advice-and-guidance/topics/behaviour/toileting/parentsBest wishes,Kevin Mod
It can take any child autistic or neurotypical until age ten to be fully independent using the bathroom.
Your son may not be understanding or recognising the biological signals that indicate the he need to defecate, it common for children experiencing food intolerance to have these this issue to the extreme.
Maybe going potty is uncomfortable or painful to the child, so work on their diet to try and ease these symptoms.
Does he have any allergies? Possible inflammation from sugars can also cause a back up.
Many of us have auto immune disorders and other gut / digestive issues. I get most fibre from fresh fruit and nuts (peanuts however are a legume) as I've always had issues with grains and what most individuals eat with high fibre (which causes the opposite: gas/constipation in some individuals).
If it's dietary and you're unsure, you could try a FODMAP diet for a few weeks and see if it helps. Lemons (add water and a bit of honey) are incredibly helpful. Then slowly try one new thing after a few weeks.
Hope I interpreted that right!
Hi, I'm really struggling with trying to potty train my three year old and just wondered if you have an advice? I've tried everything I can think of and yet everytime I mention the potty it she even sees it it causes a huge meltdown that can last up to 40minutes at a time. Any advice would be appreciated x
