Another exculsion

Hi All,

Would love to find out if anyone can relate to below (bullet points because theres not enough hours in the day to outline our 8 year story)

  • 14 year old ASD / ADHD. Received His EHC at 8 y/o.
  • Started in mainstream, happy until year 3 / aged 8 and then was excluded from mainstream.
  • Was diagnosed with subthreshold ASD, attachment disorder and hgh anxiety at 9 y/o. Which we werent happy with and pushed for another diagnoses.
  • Got a placment at a Local Authority special needs school.
  • Home schooled for 2 years, due to several exclusions from a LA Special needs school.
  • Have applied to several independant schools through the EHC co-ordinator (their brokers?) but have all said they cant meet his need?
  • Started a new placement at a learning centre, that has very little ASD/ADHD provision.
  • Has been temporay excluded...again.

He has high anxiety, as well as all of the above and will often 'fight' and unfortunalty dosnt fit in the institusional box.

Ciriculam is not important to us as he will eventually be ready to learn when he is able to understand his 'abilities'.

He's what we would call high functioning and able to mask alot of his traits.

Would love to hear from anyone whom has had the same journey and whether there are any positive outcomes?

Many thanks,

Oliver

  • Dawn is absolutely right! Th plan details what exactly the educational setting must do to provide for your child, and what the LA must do also. Contact your area SEN team and arrange a meeting with them, and all professionals involved. The meeting can then determine what support the school needs from the LA in order to meet the needs of your child.

  • Talk to the SENCO and your local authority.

It is sometimes hard for them to find placements which meet the need of the child, nontheless kids have a statutory right to education compliant with their plan.
