About to lose my mind!

Hi, my name is Jo and my five and a half year old boy was diagnosed ASD just before his 3rd birthday.

He was also born with Hypo-plastic Left Heart Syndrome and had his third stage of surgery last year.

Pysically he is in great shape, his height has shot up and he is maintaining a good weight.  He has several medications but none of which should have any effect on him other than blood related.

But this past year I have been noticing a definate down turn in his behaviour at home, mostly related to getting dressed in the morning and getting on the school bus.  Also where as before if he was angry or annoyed he would just lay on the floor and shout now he will try to knock chairs over or break whatever object is close at hand.

It is as if his 'symptoms' are getting worse.  Fighting to get his uniform on and get him on the bus every morning is putting a real strain on my family.

I just dont know what to do, he's been in this class and using this bus for over a year now.  Every now and then we will have a morning where he is fine, but I cant find any link between them.

Really I'm just looking for sugetions from others who have experienced similar and what they did to fix it so we ccan try it.

Thanks

  • hi again.  It wd be interesting to know what these "issues" are as it wd help you to make sense of your son's behaviour.  I wd try + pursue it further with the Head. If the Head sorts things out with the bus co., then you need to know what they've agreed to prepare your son.  I really don't know what you can do to get him on the bus peacefully at present.   He is obviously reacting to things to do with the bus journey : the bus itself, the driver, other children.  Do they have an Escort on his bus?  Perhaps s/he cd enlighten you, if willing.
