Feeling lost

Hi,

Last year I was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome and to be honest I'm feeling so lost in myself. I've been put on some waiting lists but not 100% what there for, I'm waiting to hear back about an occupational therapist. I'm waiting to see my GP as its been a couple of months now and feel myself just getting more and more depressed and struggling with my anxiety too. I don't have any friends or family to talk to about this but I don't feel I can talk to family members about my diagnosis (I have told them about it though so they are aware). Although since telling my closest family members I feel I've been left too it on my own, I'm so confused about how to feel or even what to do with my diagnosis. Anyone have any advice??? Thanks in advance.

  • Hi! The pathway to getting support post diagnosis is not clear at all. I was diagnosed in December 2018 and I am still very much trying to navigate that pathway! One suggestion I would make is to find out if there are any Autism/Mental health advocacy services near you as they would be able to advise you what support you are entitled to and support you to get that support.
Regarding talking to people about what you are going through. I had found this forum to be a huge source of support since my own diagnosis, just being able to talk with people who have gone through similar experiences to myself has been really helpful. So keep posting and talking with people on here and hopefully that will bring you some solidarity and comfort.
