Hello from a newbie

Hi, I am new to this forum. My 13 yr old son has just been diagnosed with autism and a degree of aspergers. I look forward to getting to know you and being a part of this forum. I have lots of questions but wanted to introduce myself before I ask anything. Thanks for reading. xx

  • It takes so long to get a diagnosis-very frustrating for us as mums who KNOW. With Will, hed just really got used to primary school, and it made behaviour at home easier too. His classmates accepted him and thought of him as "quirky" which suited us fine. But then taken out of that comfort zone and thrown into a whole new world, which is traumatic enough for any 11/12 year old-we have had major setbacks. These kids dont know him, they think hes "weird" because he doesnt act like them or want to join in-as a mum you just want to say "get to know him and you'll make a wonderful friend"-so sad. Hes done so well considering the things he finds most difficult have been thrown at him in handfulls, but at home he's back to being in his bubble-not communicating much, difficult to reach, full of anxiety about different things, rituals. We've taken a giant step back in a lot of ways. Joined this as you do feel alone and none of my friends are in the same position-so really nice to meet you. My names Nicola, Im 40 Frown live in Kent. My other bundle of trouble is Jack (nearly 8) he has trouble understanding his big brother, I know he thinks he doesnt like him much because of how he acts. Will is diagnosed ASD.
