just a little bit about my boy<3

Hi my name is Anna,

I have a little boy who is almost 4 and has recently been diagnosed with high functioning Autism, my partner and I had expected that this diagnosis would come for a while now but as with all parents and carers of children on the spectrum it was still a lot to come to terms with, I had what could only be described as a grieving period and for a few days it just didnt sink in ... the sadest thing i remember about the few days after his diagnosis, i was looking at him differently, always watching him, making sure i was there to help him every second, making sure he was okay, not letting him do much for himself,  it was like i forgot he was still my boy, my once little baby who is now growing up so fast i became very over protective ... i had to step back and let him be him, i realised that the diagnosis didnt change who he was infact it has helped us all to understand him more and has made me realise just how special he has always been.

Some days are harder than others but my boy still makes me smile the biggest smiles everyday he is the cutest most loving boy you could ever imagine and i am lucky enough to be his mummy <3

  • Hello Amy,

    Thankyou for writting to me,

Im happy for you that you finally got diagnosed with having high functioning autism, now you and your family can understand more about how you feel,

Im sorry to hear that you went through such a bad time trying to get diagnosed it must of been very frustrating for you and hard to cope with,It's a shame that you didnt get diagnosed when you were younger then you could of got more help, there maybe some classes or groups you can go to now you have been diagnosed, i assume you have already been searching for groups to go to meet other people your age on the spectrum, please dont give up you are probably not the only person that has been diagnosed at a later age and i believe thier must be some help for you even though you are now 16, maybe you can try and contact that lady that said you shoud be tested maybe she can help you find somewhere to go.

I hope you have a good family to support you

I wanted to let you know that you writting back to me did help, it helped me alot, you have given me hope for my little boy, you seem to understand everything that is happenning and you also seem very grown up about the situation you are in and I didnt think that at 16 a person with asd could be so smart at understanding life and you also choose to reply to me and lastly the fact that you have gone through your whole school life in an ordinary school without any help is amazing. your family must be proud of you Amy.

    Thankyou very much
