Late Diagnosis

Hi, I'm a new user of this forum. I was diagnosed with Aspergers two months ago at the age of 26. I have found it difficult to come to terms with and was hoping other people could maybe offer some advice based on their own experiences.

I'm happy to be here though; I didn't know there were communities like this.

Thank you.

  • To get back to Raven's original question though, what I'm trying to say is that what we are good at is usually specialised, and we need to be more confident about this.

What we tend to lack is the everyday generalisations that non-autistic people live by. We shouldn't be trying to compete with them. And going over and over why we are different isn't productive.

Those who are overly narrowly focussed should try to broaden their interests if at all possible, by finding things they are a little less interested in on which they can still focus - play off ability to focus with greater usefulness.

Go for living by what we can do.
