Confused

Hi people,  my daughter is 13 and I battled with her primary sch for year's that she had problems all teachers passed the problem to another teacher, on last day of her leaving sch they said she had learning difficulties, so the problem got pass to the secondary sch.

Went to the doctor for help over 2 years ago who made a referral to camhs,  she see a psychologist who made another referral to ndt team to see if she was on the asd

All assessment have been done had a phone call today and they have made a appointment to see both of us in two week for the outcome,  I asked does my daughter need to be there she said yes as there is a lot of information to go through,

Appointment so close but yet so far away,  waiting so long for this,

So could anyone tell me do they ask you to bring your child with you if the are autistic?  I thought it was your choice if you wanted to tell them....do they only ask you to bring them if they have found some finding

I've stayed well away from doing any research on the Web as there is so many different things and left it to the professionals,  just so anxious for the news am I going to get some answers after all these years and my daughter can finally get the right help that she has need all these years!!

Thanks any info greatfully appreciated

  • Hi,

When I went to find out my diagnosis, they called me amd my mum in but i sent my mum outside so i could find out first. But really, they will just want to explain what parts of the assessment your child did well in and not so well in so you can help them more, so you know what to look out for. They may not necessarily be autistic, but they may just have information that could help you to understand your child better. Yes, I made the mistake of going on the internet before hand, bad idea! Hope everything goes alright x

  • Thanks for a reply,  the psychologist told me on the phone they have had a team meeting and Ithey have a lot of information to go through with us.....that's why I think they want me to bring my daughter with me to say it's autism. If they came to a discussion that it's something else wouldn't they just want to see me for a different referral?

  • Is it possible that all the preliminary assessments have been done, but the final assessment by a specialist is still needed for the diagnosis itself, and or could it be perhaps that the NDT team are not aware that you actually wish to be the one who informs your daughter of the diagnosis? If so, give the NDT team a call to clarify your standpoint, and find out what is what and what can or should be done accordingly.
