Autism affects people differently so it is often referred to as "Autism Spectrum Disorder" They are terms that describe the same thing. Having a diagnosis of autism means that he is affected enough to need a diagnosis and help with his problems.

it is likely that you will need help to learn how to deal with him and his behaviour and to teach him better behaviours. This may mean you learning new skills and new ways of talking to him.

  • Hi Spalding,

I have listed some resources below which may be of use to you regarding your child's behaviour:

I understand you have an enquiry regarding Behaviour. People on the autism spectrum disorder can often display behaviour that may be challenging. There will generally be a reason for this and it is important to try and understand the trigger for the behaviour when developing strategies.

Please see the following link for further information on behaviour and strategies:

You may want to seek professional support regarding the behaviour. You can search for professionals in your area on the Autism Services Directory: www.autism.org.uk/directory.aspx

The following link provides information on getting help from social services:

The team who are best equipped to answer your question would be our Autism Helpline, as they can provide you with information and advice on your issue. You can call them on 0808 800 4104 (Monday to Thursday 10am to 4pm, Friday 9am to 3pm), although please note that the Helpline is experiencing increasingly high demand, and you may not reach them straight away.

I hope you have found this information useful.
