5 year old son Assesment coming up after 7 months waiting - advice?

Hi been waiting since october for my sons assesment. Now have a date coming up.

Any advice on what to expect at the assesment? its at the Ryegate centre in sheffield and I think its a multi discplinary assesment. Is there usually a lot of assesments before you get a diagnosis or not?

Hi Em83, I'm in the same locality as you. I believe Ryegate sheffield use a combination of DMS 5 and ICD 10 (diagnostic tools) to assess plus a play based observation.You can google these to prepare for your parental input. Have they sent you a form to complete already? If not phone and request it. How long have you got to prepare before the assessment? Sheffield parent carer forum are great at offering advice. Hope all goes well.

Thankyou kazm I will have a look at those. We filled in some firms last year when he was first referred. Just want to be prepared as we realky need some help !

Hi Em 83. My son is also under Ryegate. I believe they use a combination of diagnostic 'tools' called ICD 10 and DSM 5, I googled these to find what info they would ask. They also do a play based observation. Have they sent you a form / questionnaire to fill in? If not phone and ask for it. Sheffield parent carer forum are great at offering help and advice.
