where to reach out too?

Ok i think most of you know my story so im  not going to go through it again, lastnight my son had another meltdown and tried getting to the knives so he could harm himself, i took him to a&e in the hope someone would listen, perhaps medicate or get a pychologist, but no it diddnt happen, we took him home and have been told to phone the gp on monday and get an emergency peadiatic appointmen and that he would speak to the peadatricians at his side.

Weve already saw Cahms they have said its not a mental health issue, what do i do? oh they have said that they will contact socail services and se if we can get respite.

  • Hi mumof4boys772,

I'm sorry that you are continuing to have problems in terms of getting the support that you need for your son. You did completely the right thing by taking your son to A&E in terms of his self-harm risk, I'm sorry that they didn't provide you with more support. There is a section on our website where you can contact the Community Care Team. I noticed that you mentioned the possibility of getting some support from social services and this part of the website enables you to speak to someone about any concerns or questions you have about social services. http://www.autism.org.uk/our-services/advice-and-information-services/community-care-service.aspx This may be of interest to you. In the meantime, if you have any other concerns then don't hesitate to contact us either via the community here or our helpline http://www.autism.org.uk/news-and-events/about-the-nas/contact-us.aspx

    Take care,

  • Recombined, he finds it hard to communicate some things, sometimes when there has been something wrong at school you cannot get to the bottom of it,he can have a uge huge meltdown and sometimes you can get to the bottom of it,sometimes you cant.

I have a feeling this weekend is because hes been so anxious about church,i dont know whever its the change or whever church is too loud ect ect,it can be very hard even though you talk to him and he talks to you to fathom what hes actually feeling.

  • Cahms basically put it in writing that because im on the ball with it hes low to moderate risk and discharged him saying his behviours could be explained from an Asd perspective and where was he up too with assesment and that was it, after that i went back to gp who said nowehere else she could refer us.

Aspergers itself may not be a mental health issue but someone who is intent on self-harm very definitely does have mental health issues. He has mental health issues because of the isolation that the ASD has caused. Have CAMHS put it in writing that they are unable to help him?

MO4B - have you looked at the support that NAS provides? It seems to me that he has problems because he doesn't have anyone who can communicate with him in a language that he understands or that can say the things that he can't say.
