Diagnosis outcome- what to expect on the day

I have been through an ASC assessment and am due to get my results next week.  I am, needless to say, very anxious about this.  Does anyone have any advice on what to expect?  I have read about people receiving reports discussing the result.  As I will meet with the assessors what sort of discussion will I have should I not be diagnosed?  Do they normally spend time discussing the outcome in detail either way?

I have found the assessment process a bit stressful and would like to find out the result indepth, but don't want to prepare lots of questions if this won't be permitted on the day.  I have a fear that I may not be given the diagnosis due to previous comments made by the assessors, and this worries me as I have many daily struggles that I am convinced are due to being 'on the spectrum' and I want to have an official diagnosis to validate it for personal reasons that I don't want to divulge on this thread.

Thank you

  • Hi belles12345, This is what happened when I got my results: I met with the psychologist who had done the assessment (she had used the DISCO assessment tool).  She gave me a report summarising her observations from the interviews with myself and my parents.  She told me the overall conclusion first, which in my case was a diagnosis of ASC and we then went through the report in detail to make sure I felt it was accurate.  If I was going through the process again, I would probably spend more time in the appointment on the "what next?" questions i.e. now I'm diagnosed what interventions/support/treatments etc. might help.  Before I started the assessment process I had discussed with the psychologist what would happen if the conclusion was that I didn't have ASC - she said there were other tests that could be done to see if a differential diagnosis could be reached.  We didn't go into much detail on that I'm afraid so I can't provide more info here but that is something you might ask about if the conclusion is that you don't have ASC. Good luck - hope your appointment goes well.
