Adult diagnosis help. At the end of the rope.

Little back story. My little brother has severe autism (non-verbal ect) I was his carer for 6 years and am still involved in caring for him now. I have had the lot, temper tantrums, naked street runs and my nose broken. I also know how much you have to fight.

Now I am in need of help.

My partner clearly displays symptoms of Aspergers. As he's getting older things are getting worse as he cant act like he thinks is right, in the real world. (Ie/ he struggled to talk to strangers or people in general so will put the phone down on them or if the post man knocks on the door my partner will sit with his hands over his ears rocking).

We went to the doctors asked to be refared to someone who can diagnose/assess him. The doctor asked why we felt he needed it, the fact I had to explain what he needed because he sat refusing to talk or look at her spoke for itself.

She sent a letter to the mental health services who have since replied with a "Adult support for autism/Aspergers doesnt really exist because there is no adult services for Autism/Aspergers."

We are slowly losing hope. Any advice at all would be helpful.

Years of fighting for my brother (though under 16 so apparently entitled to help) and now this is leaving me very very drained. Not to mention how hopeless my partner feels at the idea of continueing his life being thought of as "odd".
