Scientific terms in every day use

I hate how scientific terms are now a part of the lexicon

I can no longer just enjoy my hobbies without being told about dopamine drops 

I cant reset my sleep pattern without being lectured about. Circadian rythems

I don't know. Why but it all puts me on edge

  • I think that often what is annoying is the intent of the person saying it, trying to rationalise a worry away, and avoid further exploration or introspection, or exert an authority-like role (which we usually dislike).

    It also happens that some of these explanations, when related not to nature but to ourselves, are not actionable. For example, rather that a statement like "You are having dopamine drops." the actionable statement is: What high-level actions did I take, that produced the following effects? Is there anything that could be improved?

    But in other areas a scientific explanation can be quite nice.

    • Thinking that there are tiny chemical machines within a plant that harvest solar energy and store it in chemical bonds of molecules via CO2, and usually (not always) produce Oxygen as a subproduct which enables us to live, isn't quite marvellous?

    So maybe it is the intent of terminating the process of self-understanding or doubting what is annoying in the cases you described?

    Also, sometimes we may want a more romantic explanation, such as the stories of Orion The Hunter.
