Tummy troubles

Looking for answers really because of a post about Kefir by

Has anyone found anything that helps with a delicate tummy

Things I’ve tried

Goats milk Kefir
Sauerkraut….too potent…the homemade version anyway

Home made Sourdough

Do you lot suffer with this thing that happens to me as soon as I get nervous my stomach starts acting weird ?

  • "chumblyness" :-) that's a new word for me

  • It sounds as if its the nervous system that needs treating as the cause rather than the poorly tummy which is the symptom. Maybe try drinking chamomile tea to help calm nerves and fennel tea to help with nausea, cramping and general chumblyness?

If your gut is in balance already then adding lots of bacteria from yogurt and saurkraut will unbalance it.

  • Yep stress and the gut have close correlations in behaviour and experience.

Lots of "western" science and what some people might call "wooo-woo" yogic or similar practice and teachings explore this.

Making the "jump" to appreciating the stress/gut function correlation might be a way to approach it - e.g it might not be what one is consuming but how one is from a wider biological basis pre-prepared to react to consumption.

That said from a practical basis of the gut "flora and fauna" that we all have (stuff that lives inside/along with us that does a lot of the "pre-digestion for us) - making changes gradually with diet consumed perhaps will give time for that to naturally adjust - eg time for the specific flora and fauna that is needed to digest to help digest the different food consumed to multiply in numbers present to aid digestion of an increase in volume of the particular foodstuff?

  • I love nuts, especially Brazil nuts, but I’ve found that eating too many can have a detrimental effect on my stomach.

You might find the "Toxicity" section here helpful - it perhaps explains why:

  • Stress has a bad effect on my stomach, everything seems to speed up and tie itself in knots.

I have tried lots of things for my tummy troubles including Kefir and Greek yoghurt. I think the Greek yoghurt might help but I have noticed a definite improvement when I’ve included an apple with the yoghurt and increased the variety of plant foods in my diet.

The Greek yoghurt has to be the real thing as ‘Greek Style’ yoghurt doesn’t have the same properties.

I love nuts, especially Brazil nuts, but I’ve found that eating too many can have a detrimental effect on my stomach.

  • Stress absolutely affects your digestion.

The best solution is to not be stressed, but this is not very practical, although you can perhaps try to get calmer.

I tend to just not eat if I am stressed. I would think you want things that are not harsh on your stomach or cause irritation.
