Hi I have noticed on here that sometimes someone will reply with what looks like a very AI response to someone’s question. Initially the message looks kind and understanding, but after a while it seems obvious to me that it’s AI. (As someone who has tried Chat GPT a few times). I am wondering if people might use it to put a ‘good’ reply to a thread on here? And genuinely mean well, or if it’s just weird? It makes me feel uncomfortable that might just be me though.

    That’s the essential concern for me. 

    I have no problem with people directly pasting AI text on this forum so long as they say it’s AI.

    Not wanting large chunks of unreferenced AI text has nothing to do with not accepting AI or progress.

    I thought the purpose of this forum was to help people who experience difficulties related to autism. If you want to limit certain forms of help because of some kind of prejudice against progress, that seems very sad and, in my opinion, does a disservice to those who might otherwise benefit from technology.

    I should point out that it was my generation that developed AI to the level it has reached today. It didn’t just appear out of nowhere. What I’m saying is that people have been thinking about AI for a long time, myself included.

    The fact remains that AI isn’t going away and, by all accounts, will continue to grow, so why fight it? Isn’t it best to simply accept and adapt to it?

    I find your positive stance towards AI (in various posts here) and in-depth knowledge of it quite unusual for your generation.

    Could you let us know a little bit about your own experience of it please and what has led you to these conclusions.

    I definitely don’t want to isolate anyone or make them sad either. We all have enough of that going on.

    Thank you for starting this post O and I am reading the replies with interest.

    The above is my one big reservation.

    In the past there have been posts on this forum to try to spot AI/bots and people have been offended.

    Bots are easier to spot because they are probably here to sell a product/service for humans.

    AI is a different matter though.

    I think it would be sad if members who use AI to help themselves to phrase what they want to say feel alienated.

    An interesting (and to me, slightly scarey, although I am younger than you) take on the subject.

    It's complicated and individual responses will be just that ie individual and will in some cases be relevant to the generation of the forum member.

    Yes I think this could be a good idea. I don’t use AI in here, my replies are exactly what my brain is thinking. I do use AI to have difficult conversations and ask difficult questions, things I couldn’t say to anyone I know in real life. It’s quite useful for that, but it does repeat itself. One time I asked it to design a picture of me in a certain cartoon style and it gave me 3 hands Joy

    I don’t think your words come across as AI at all on your posts. I have a very keen eye for detail. I think using AI occasionally and for ideas and to get something clearer than it is in your head is a really useful tool.

    Sometimes the way sentences are formed is exactly like AI. I do have conversations with AI that I can’t have in real life so I know how it looks. I’m just wondering if I am over thinking this…. Or is it my pattern recognition shining through?
