Son diagnosed with aspergers

Hi my 4 year old son was diagnosed with aspergers yesterday, its been a long wait to get here, its a shock even though I was expecting it, but feels like I'm on my own now with leaflets and phone numbers to contact for support. He's still seeing the speech therapist who is going to arrange an appointment with the school as he's just started so in a way I'm grateful its been picked up before he started school so he can get the right support.

  • I know what you mean I had people say that all the time. It took me 3 years to get help and then professionals finally woke up and realised he wasn't going to grow out of any of it. Although family still think he will get better from it and don't understand how hard and exhausting it all it is. Right now I am soooo tired Smile

  • Thank you so much for the reply, makes it even harder when I have people telling me there's "nothing wrong with him" their not the ones that are with him 24/7.

  • Hi

Trust me your not alone even if it feels like it. I'm in the exact same boat as you. My 4 year old son was diagnosed only a month ago. Even though I was expecting it I am still trying to get over the shock and come to terms with it. I think it is alot harder as well with them starting school (alot of changes). I feel like I am on a constant rollercoaster this summer holidays and I'm sure you feel the same. I found this online chat has really helped so keep coming on and reading other peoples situations you then realise that even though people on the spectrum can vary in difficulties, they go through similar situations. I also found a website that has really good toys and lights that can help them. www.cheapdisabilityaids.co.uk

    Hope this helps a bit
