PIP telephone appointment

Hi. I have a telephone appointment in September for my PIP. I am so afraid, and anxious about this. I'm shaking and it's not until next month. I don't know how I can handle this appointment. Is there anyone that could help me. Maybe assist with the call. My Autism just makes me fear about talking to new people. Please help with ideas.

  • Is it the appointment in general or the telephone in particular that is causing you the most anxiety? I'm sure I speak for many here when I say, "I HATE phones!" I'd much rather meet someone in person.

What came as a big surprise to me was finding video calls (which I've had to start using recently) much easier than phone calls. Maybe talk to your service provider and see if you can interact with them via some other medium, if phones are an issue.

  • Damo. It's the whole idea of not what is going to happen with the call. Also not understanding the questions.

  • Not understanding the questions is one of my issues, too. Or, rather, I understand the words, but I think of six different ways of answering each question and I don't know which answer the person wants. I might need some clarification or a bit more time to think (or both) and thinking time is not something that works on a phone for me (too much "dead air").

In general, though, I suppose if you want the PIP, you have to put up with the process. A face-to-face appointment if you could bring someone with you might make you feel more at ease. Even if you could have someone with you for the phone call (put it on speaker), it might help.
