The bill has passed, now onto the HoL

THIS TREAD IS ABOUT THE ASSISTED DYING BILL.

I'm glad it's passed, I know any people will disagree, and I respect thier choice, as I can't take any pain killers except paracetamol, this bill gives me some comfort that when the end is in sight, I have some choices and hopefully won't have to depart before I'm ready.

  • I was on a cancer ward today and a visitor was calling down the corridor to a nurse asking for more pain relief for the person they were visiting as they were 'in agony' (their words).

The nurse said they couldn't have any more at that time.

This is in the UK with advanced healthcare systems.

How much more do others suffer who are in poorer countries or war torn zones.

I think that stopping suffering should be a primary aim of humankind.

Others might vote against this because of their idea of a heaven, and believing that a person who ends their own suffering won't go to heaven (a mediaeval view) but in effect you are saying that your belief (and it's only a belief) is more important than alieviating another's very real agonies.

Thank goodness for Dignitas and other clinics like it.

  • It is a terrible thing when a person is calling out in agony and it’s something that could happen to any of us.
