The bill has passed, now onto the HoL

THIS TREAD IS ABOUT THE ASSISTED DYING BILL.

I'm glad it's passed, I know any people will disagree, and I respect thier choice, as I can't take any pain killers except paracetamol, this bill gives me some comfort that when the end is in sight, I have some choices and hopefully won't have to depart before I'm ready.

Parents
  • I've experienced loved ones slowly die in degrading ways which include but are very much not limited to deep depression as a result of the illness and life changing outcomes.

I've been a carer and talked to carers.

I knew someone who cared for both her parents who couldn't do anything for themselves, including going to the toilet.

Who are we to say that their suffering isn't bad enough for them to choose to end it?

I'm experiencing right now a loved one suffering a life threatening and shortening illness with many months in hospital.

I will always defend their right to end their suffering when they choose and would help them in any way I can.

  • The problem is that some people don't react as well to pain killers as others, they just don't seem to be as effective, I know for myself that I react very badly to opiates, they work for a day or two, then I start hallocinating and the effectiveness against pain drops markedly.

I would like the same options as my dogs and cats, I know I'm making the choice for them, but I've also seen very sick cats hold out thier paw and arm to the vet, with a 'lets get this over with' look.

I'm not a Christian, but I do have faith and assisted dying is within my faith.
