PIP and Mobility

Hi everyone - has anyone been awarded the enhanced element of the Mobility within PIP? - It would be interesting to know what criteria they looked at to award it - my sister has the smaller element but my neice has the enhanced - I was not awarded any mobility element but am appealing - I do know that the Autistic Society is trying to get the Government to change the wording to allow people with Aspergers to access the enhanced element - how that will go is anyones guess - thanks Sylvia

  • My son who is 34 just had enhanced daily living and standard mobilty. I asked for a reconsideration on the mobilty because he cannot go out alone. I just had a letter saying he has now been awarded enhanced mobility. So great news!

  • My son was awarded enhanced living PIP but standard Mobility, as he can walk the minimum criteria and does go on a  short familiar route occasionally on his own, he can use public transport on familiar routes on his own but dislikes it for normal asd reasons, as I am sole carer with no car myself this makes life extremely difficult, I accompany him on unfamiliar routes.  Seems a bit of a lottery.

  • I got awarded the low-rate ESA about a month ago by a letter, I didn't have to go to any face-to-face assessments or anything, they say they'd backdate to start of the claim, and also say that it's paid every 2 weeks but I have not got any payment yet.

Still hearing from my PIP claim, which I attended the assessment last monday but they said within 3 weeks I should hear from them.

  • My adult son has just been awarded Pip. He got enhanced daily living. But standard mobilty. I am going to appeal because he cannot use public transport or go out alone.

  • My daughter who has autism just been awarded both the enhanced elements of pips, she did not get any points for mobility because she can walk more than 200 meters aided or unaided, but she still got enhanced rate mobility as She got 12 points, which is the min points you need for getting around enhanced rate as she can't follow a route of a familiar journey without another person, assistance dog or an or orientation aid. She got 27 points for daily activity, i applied on jan 8th 2014 and had my daughters award notice letters on the 24th june 2014 and all back pay was paid a week after I received the award notice, she did not have to go to a face to face assessment as all the evidence i sent in was substantial enough. Prior to this she was on DLA,  at high rate for both,  but as soon as she turned 16 they lowered it to low rate mobility and med care, her award for DLA at that rate then ran out on her 20th birthday which was jan of this year,  I then had to renew her claim for DLA but as it was 2 days late reaching them they would not process the claim so they sent my DLA claim forms to pips, which  i think in my daughters  case  has benefited her as she still would probably have been on the old rate with DLA, so anyone making a claim for someone with autism or similar disabilities and you are on lower rates of DLA,  it's a possibility you could be better off applying for pips earlier before your award for DLA ends, but don't rush to do it,  take advice first. I would be happy to answer any questions thanks.

Preparing food 2 points, Taking nutrition 4 points, managing therapy/health 1 point , washing and bathing 2 points, managing toilet needs 0 points, dressind/undressing 2 points, communicating verbally 4 points, reading and understanding 2 points , engaging with people face to face 4 points, making making budgeting decisions 6 points, following and planning a journey 12 points , moving around 0 points
