What do you do on a weekend?

As the title says, really.

I find that on a weekend I get up fairly early (5:15AM) as I don't like doing lie-ins. I'll then head to the gym at some point that morning and do a class or two, or perhaps just do a workout/swimming session and/or spend time in the spa. More often than not, I have absolutely nothing else planned for the weekend, meaning I have two long afternoons that drag out and I do nothing but procrastinate, making me feel unproductive and bringing my mood down.

I used to enjoy gaming and I do still occasionally, but not so much now, and it feels like such a waste of time when I do it. I'm trying to be more forgiving with myself, and right now I'm laid in bed watching Impractical Jokers, which I enjoy and don't feel so bad about doing, but it'd be nice to have some more things to fill my weekend with.

I'd like to know what everyone else gets up to on the weekend.

  • Here goes...

    I always go walking

I tend to go cycling (during the warmer months)

I do my workout set, I've got some handweights that I use.

I read some of my book(s). I've tried to spend more time reading and less time on my computer.

    I cook some food

    I go food shopping

    I play Scrabble sometimes

Sometimes I watch a bit of telly (watching Andor at the moment, great show, I'm a big Star Wars fan).  Sometimes on E4 there's the Simpsons or The Big Bang Theory, or Modern Family, which I find quite funny.

Sometimes I build with my LEGO as well.

Sometimes I meet up with my friends and we go somewhere.

I do some housework as well, some cleaning, some chores.

My weekends are not always exciting, but they are most of the time a great way for me to unwind from work (I work about 36 hours over Monday to Friday, I go in 3 days a week, usually Mon, Tues, Thurs, so I am quite drained by Friday!).

Oh, and I usually have a 2-hour driving lesson as well, usually Sunday Morning but sometimes Saturday. I've been taking driving lessons since January 2024, made really good progress. Slow progress is still progress! Passed my theory test April 9th 2024 and got my practical test booked for 7th October 2025. My reaction times are a bit slow and I can't practice outside of lessons due to not having a car, plus im learning in a manual car and my parents' car is an automatic, but I'm glad I'm taking the time to learn to drive, I've wanted to learn to drive for a while, glad im learning now when im in my 20s.

Good on you for getting up early and going to the gym! I wish I had your discipline!

  • This is great! Good on you for learning to drive, I found it a very scary process and it took me quite a while, but I got there in the end. I know it's not easy but if you could get yourself a manual car just simply getting in and practicing makes a huge difference.

For your test day, just keep yourself relaxed. Have a nice chat with your examiner and put yourself in the mindset that you're just nipping to the shop with them as opposed to being tested, and the atmosphere will really help settle you.

  • Thank you very much for your response and advice!
