Things looked forward to in a better weather week?

As the northern hemisphere steps forward towards Springtime; when your area gets the forecast of an improved weather week: to which activities are you looking forward?

Time spent outdoors?  Pastimes?  Exploring places?  Sports?  Increased travel options?  Doing as little as possible in the sunshine?  Chores you couldn't face tackling over Winter?  Meeting a friend?  A favourite walk?  Photography of fauna, flora and vistas?  Clubs, Groups, Events and Outings?  Your children being able to play more outside?  Drying laundry on an outside washing line?  Going for a picnic?  Sitting outside a coffee shop?  Listening to the natural sounds of your environment?  Watching a favourite plant unfurl its leaves?

  • that has reminded me that it is time to put up the bird nesting box on a suitable tree in the garden!

    I hope you get inhabitants.

I've put a new bee nesting box up as the last one didn't work (a very large one) but I've realised, after reading about positioning them, that I'd put it in entirely the wrong place.

  • cool!- I love butterflies their wing colours and patterns can be so beautiful.

  • I have a patio planter with a dwarf Buddleia plant where the Butterflies like the flowers.

  • Thanks for making this post. Spring is my favourite season of the year. Will be nice to get out more in some better weather and see all the new growth and enjoy the wildlife. Its also too early for those dreaded wasps creatures which is a nice benefit. You can enjoy a drink outside without getting hounded.

  • Looking forward to more sunshine

  • A few years ago, when helping a relative to downsize to their new home; when I asked what were the priority "needs" and "wants" of the next home: their first answer was:

"I must be able to open the bedroom window, having woken up in the morning, and sit in bed with my first tea of the day - listening to the birds".

(I am pleased to report: that a carefully placed bird bath did the trick in the garden of the new home).

  • I'm hoping the inbetween time lasts this year. The time inbetween having to wear multiple layers and a big coat to go out, versus the time of having to cover myself in sunblock, wear a sun-hat and dark glasses to go out. I just want warmth with no rain and no strong sun. Not fussy: honest!

  • That sounds good, busy time ahead. I want to plant up my garden this year, it's a little wild at the moment.

  • With any luck; we should have lots of warmer, but not too warm weeks to enjoy.

  • Sunny️Sunshine makes me what to spend time in the garden, watching the jackdaws who are clever and smart. Also I like watching the pond and seeing wildlife.

    BeeButterfly love bees and butterflies.

Yellow heartI've got to be careful as I struggle with the hot weather.

  • My allotment is under control, however, I am a bit behind with the indoor propagator, raised garden vegetable beds, cold frames and greenhouse ...so there is plenty to keep me out of mischief.

  • Thank you, that has reminded me that it is time to put up the bird nesting box on a suitable tree in the garden!

  • My favourite is the birds starting to sing their mating songs.

Living in the countryside this is the sound that wakes me up during the spring and summer months.

  • Great idea for a thread.

As it warms up, and brightens up, I look forward to going out for my morning run and getting my old MGB out of its home so I can start some much needed work done to it. I also have a rather large tree to take down in my garden, it towers above the house and is leaning our way, so it needs to go sooner or later.

This week has been good already, a bit cold but I've been able to get out in the garden and keep busy. It's helped me a lot, I have felt a lot less anxious this last week.

What about you? Anything nice planned?

  • I struggled with the cold air while running, so the rising temperatures are great for better breathing on longer runs while not being too warm.

  • Nice thread.

    Thank you.

I like all the seasons but this winter has been very wet so I'm mainly looking forward to, hopefully, drier and sunnier days.

Visiting the seafront and gardens and gardening.

It's lovely seeing the 1st buds and all the flowers poking their little heads up above the earth, and leaves on decidious trees.

My favourite is the birds starting to sing their mating songs.

Blackbirds especially, but we also have robins who are already singing their hearts out.
