Recent Diagnosis

Antrim

Hi my son was diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum on 30th June by a speech therapist for autism, she has said that I will get another appt in 6-8 weeks time and he will be seen by a second specialist for diagnosis.  She says that the diagnosis has to be made by 2 people.  Help is this correct?  I feel like I am having to wait longer when I could and should be getting help.  Please advise.

  • Our paed referred us to social work as well ... the boys now go to an activity scheme in the school holidays which they love.  They're also able to get swimming lessons for children with extra needs and I think there are other activities they can do which we're not involved in at the moment.

    Support wise, DH & I felt that we were kind of given the dx and then left to fend for ourselves which was hard. 

    Hope you're getting on OK and that you don't have too long to wait for the next appointments.
