Do GP’s and staff know you are autistic from your notes on screen?

For example, when you phone the surgery to book an appointment, do they see your name and it says that you are autistic?

  • it might help to contact your GP surgery's practice manager directly. You could perhaps refer them to that webpage again, which says:

    "National usage policy

This service is mandated for use in all care settings in England.

    This is based on:

    • the Equality Act 2010
    • the NHS Long Term Plan"

Perhaps along with the link to this NHS England action checklist page for the flag:

    https://www.england.nhs.uk/long-read/the-reasonable-adjustment-digital-flag-action-checklist-what-you-need-to-do-to-achieve-compliance/

    Which includes:

    "What organisations need to do

Compliance and implementation of the Reasonable Adjustment Digital Flag Information Standard is by a two-phase approach and organisations should be working towards compliance with phase one by no later than April 2024."

  • I've sent my GP surgery these instructions multiple times but I don't think the flag is there. GPs still ask me why I've come in instead of phoning when the flag should say I can't do calls. I don't know what more I can do to get the flag when I've sent step by step instructions for placing it multiple times.

  • If someone involved in your care has set the Reasonable Adjustment Flag (including the optional details of your impairment type, adjustments and condition(s)) on your digital NHS record, they will know that you need accommodations for your ASD.

You might like to check whether this has been done with your GP surgery and, if not, request it.
